I teach in a traditional public school and ideas regarding student learning styles are not only welcomed BUT are EXPECTED to be utilized by the classroom teacher. I recently went to my principal to ask permission to not use our math textbook but to use Montessori and other hands-on materials and was given the go-ahead to do so. My children are rarely at their "desks" and these are not even desks, they are long tables so we can restructure as need fits. My mother doesn't understand why I have so much work and it takes me so long to close my room at the end of the year. I finally told her that school is different than when she was there. We have so many materials and things to put away. It's not just clean the desks and put the books on the shelves anymore! Unfortunately, I'm sure there are some of these traditional settings left but I bet not as many as you think.
